Pillar of Salt Studio is located in the small city of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. In 2011, I discovered the art of wire wrapping as I was searching for a way to string handmade beads for a Christmas present. Starting with some inexpensive wire and basic tools, I began experimenting and trying out different ideas when time allowed. I fell in love with the challenge and endless possibilities, and my family’s life hasn’t been the same since.
Wire wrapping became an outlet for my creative energy and was the perfect medium for this homemaker and busy mom of three (now four). A year later I took the giant step (for me) of opening an Etsy shop with a few products. As God has opened doors and shut others, I have continued forward. As the business has grown, my husband Josh has joined me and now does most of the oxidizing & polishing, and helps package orders. The kids help with cutting wire lengths, punching holes in product cards, folding shipping boxes, and the like. I hope they are learning to follow their passions and whatever they do, to work at it with all their heart.
We have had the thrill of seeing our jewelry worn on the Hallmark Channel’s Cedar Cove, Easter Under Wraps, Check Inn to Christmas; NBC’s Chicago P.D., The Village; Lifetime's Christmas Hotel, The Road Home for Christmas, Staging Christmas; TVLand's Teachers; Fox's The Orville; The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, Jane the Virgin, Arrow, and All American; Disney's High School Musical: The Series; and Apple TV's Amber Brown.
I (Sara Lott) am the owner, photographer, artist, and creator behind Pillar of Salt Studio. If you have a sense of humor and a little knowledge of early Bible history, you can appreciate where my business name comes from. The other aspect of being “salt” comes from Matthew 5 where Jesus talks about being salt and light in this world. I do sincerely hope that my love for Christ shines through my art and sings glory to God, the great Artist and Creator.
Every purchase helps care for children in Guatemala. Our family has a special connection with Guatemala and we have found an amazing organization, Hope of Life International, that we support financially each month. Guatemala is the most undernourished country in Latin America and the fourth highest in the world. Hope of Life saves lives by attending to the physical needs and sharing the good news of Jesus' love by rescuing children suffering from severe malnutrition, attending to medical needs, providing clean water to villages, building homes & schools, and more.
